Hardcover. Condición: USED_FINE. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 221 pages. Published in 1985. The author's second novel. One of Denis Johnson's finest achievements. The first appearance of the title in the United Kingdom. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only that was a surprising success and went into subsequent printing. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Dennis Johnson's "Fiskadoro". His cult sophomore effort, and by his own reckoning, sheer exertion, taking him ten years to write, and longer to write in his head. Still, his vision of Post-Nuclear Planet Earth preceded (by twenty years) and influenced Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" (2006). Among other tropes, the eponymous character is also a boy. The Boy Fiskadoro is turned into "a man not like other men" by events that radically change his life. Which, in and of itself, is a fresh and original vision of what Apocalypse really means to humanity. "Probes the mystery, the accident, the miracle of salvation. Explores the power and viability of language, memory, art, and faith, not only in an imagined future but also in our own time" (Publisher's blurb). Superficially labeled and often dismissed as a "spiritual writer" - who isn't among major American writers? - Johnson was preoccupied with what he considered to be one of every serious novelist's subjects: The meaning of time. Hence, "Fiskadoro" is set in an Apocalyptic Future. Whereas "Tree of Smoke" (2007), his award-winning novel, is set in an Apocalyptic Past, namely, America's disastrous war in Vietnam during the better part of the mid-20th century. "It isn't sleeping under the moon that makes a crazy person. It's waking up and remembering the past and thinking it's real" (Denis Johnson, Page 217). An absolute "must-have" title for Denis Johnson collectors. This copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the half-title page by Denis Johnson. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a late-modern classic with a cult following. This is one of very few such copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing (British) still available online and despite its imperfection (A publisher's flaw: Browning on page edges because of the inferior paper used, as found in every copy of the book) is still in fine condition overall: Clean, crisp, and bright. It is an unread and well-preserved copy. Please note: Chatto & Windus clipped the price on the DJ flap and replaced it with a white sticker that reflects a price increase. That does NOT make it a flaw because it was not done by a previous owner but by the publisher. A scarce signed copy thus. Winner of the National Book Award in 2007 and Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for "Tree of Smoke". Denis Johnson's "Jesus' Son" was selected by the panel of New York Times writers, critics, and editors as one of the Top 20 most important works of American fiction of the last 25 years. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER DENIS JOHNSON TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0701129352. Signed by Author. Nº de ref. del artículo: 23862
