We - campers, counselors, parents, medical professionals- come to camp and are forever changed. It is these shared experiences - the fun, the laughter, the tears, the magic, the community, friendship, and love - that resonate in our heart. "Somewhere between adolescence and adulthood, I met a woman named Meera. She defined a stage of human development which is physically and psychologically impossible, the unfathomable stage now known as "camp counselor." Meera, my definition of camp counselor, is a rare combination of doctor, lawyer, author, community builder, and mentor. She is a competent child psychologist, resourceful child care worker and strict disciplinarian with a twinkle in her eye. She is a referee, coach, teacher, advisor and friend. She is an example of a grown up in beads and bracelets, skirts and sparkles all-around. Meera is an idol with her head in a cloud and feet in the mud. She is a Kitchen of Dreams maker, Girlapalooza creator, human-size bubble risk taker. There is no off-season for this determined breed, as she is always seeking the next camp to conquer and dreaming of the endless possibilities for seriously-ill children who have yet to know her.
