Hannes Lochner was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. Before he had finished primary school, his parents had taken him to almost every game reserve in South Africa, and a passion, which was to become his life's labour, was born. He studied at the University of Stellenbosch where he became engulfed in the art of graphic design. Once his studies were successfully completed he decided to return to his roots as naturist and become a full time river guide in Namibia. His hunger still not satisfied, he left after a couple of years to travel the globe and kayak her rivers extensively, meeting her nations and travelling her continents. Back in his home land he started a rafting company and acted as river and field guide on the Orange and Kunene Rivers. Cape Town called and he returned once more as freelance photographer, graphic designer and freelance river guide. His love for the animals and birds of Africa triumphed in the end and in 2007 he became a full time wild life photographer and the idea of this book was born, no doubt next to the enchanting flames of a bushveld fire, a "rum and coke light in hand and the enthusiastic ear of a best friend.
Colours of Southern Africa is a wonderful photographic debut. Hannes Lochner has captured not only the wild and spontaneous essence of his subjects, the images speak to you. They are the gifts of an artist with a still hand, a keen eye and a deep knowledge of his subjects. The book is also a Photographic Safari capturing all of what South Africa's National Parks have to offer. It clearly shows what makes South Africa's National Parks so special, what makes South African's proud and what keeps our International Visitors coming back year after year.
