In 1991 Joyce Wadler, a 43 year-old New York City reporter, had breast cancer which was caught early and successfully treated. Joyce Wadler is a New York City humorist who writes the 'I Was Misinformed' column for The New York Times, where she was a staff reporter for 15 years. Her memoir about breast cancer, "My Breast", has been translated into several languages. The London Sunday Times called "My Breast" the first humor book -- "albeit black humor" -- about breast cancer.
