Raw Feet: DC Teen Voices - Tapa blanda

Raw Feet brings together compelling works of fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction written by teenagers who received recognition from the Scholastic Writing Awards in Greater Washington, D.C. This book was not only written by these young authors, but also designed, edited, and copy-edited by them as well, in conjunction with Writopia Lab, the regional affiliate for The Awards. The pieces in this collection are exemplary in voice, style, subject matter and -- in many cases -- courage. The writers in Raw Feet confront topics such as identity, death, loss, and the growing pains that emerge when leaving childhood and entering adulthood. Together, these writers chose the title Raw Feet, explaining, “Our feet are raw because we still possess the innocence of youth. Our feet are raw because we have lost that innocence, because we’ve outgrown that smooth unbroken skin, because we have learned the burdens that all of us must carry.” Writopia Lab (www.WritopiaLab.org) is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to foster joy, literacy, and critical thinking in all young people through creative writing.
