Defending Hope

Dad is sick and getting worse, Mom is too close for comfort, and then there’s the cross-country move. Hope's idyllic childhood is thrown off-course when she has to deal with problems reserved for adults. She must grow up, and fast. If this is life, then all hope is lost. Journey with thirteen year-old Hope as she struggles to bear the burden of this ironic name while her father is battling lung cancer. Her only recourse is to go to court and legally change her name, if only she can convince her parents to sign the necessary paperwork. Through a grieving process filled with missteps, humor, and self-examination, Hope finally faces the judge only to find that Dad has one final trick up his sleeve: a piece of evidence that just might change everything.

Natalie Proudfoot lives in Indiana with her husband and two daughters. With an MS in counseling, she enjoys spending time getting to know people of all ages, learning about the issues that impact them, and discovering what is important in the lives they lead.
