Handwritten signed letter from Wendy Cope to Richard Boston loosely inserted addressed from 53, Kestrel Avenue, Herne Hill, SE24 dated 31st Jan 1982 and consisting of about 40 words in which she encloses the book and an amusing cartoon by Glen Baxter 'illegally reproduced'. A further handwritten note loosely inserted from Cope to Boston written on ILEA notepaper no address noted dated 23rd June no year and consisting of about 20 words with photocopies attached of two poems both published in 'Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis' entitled 'The Policeman's Lot' after W. S. Gilbert (concerning Ted Hughes) and 'From Strugnell's Sonnets' (inspired by an Andrew Motion quote) which she says she promised to send him. Richard Boston (1938Ð2006) was a writer and journalist who delighted in humour. He was editor of 'New Society' and wrote for 'The Guardian', and founded the environmental magazine 'The Vole' and the literary magazine 'Quarto'. However, 'his writing had roots in specific beliefs, notably in the verities of anarchism. A man of considerable moral courage, he had an ingrained distrust of all attempts by one group of people to organise and control the lives of others.' Wendy Cope (born 1945), a contemporary poet who had phenomenal success with her first collection of poetry 'Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis'.
