Fragments: Architecture and the Unfinished is published to mark the retirement of Robin Middleton, one of the most distinguished architectural historians of recent times. In twenty-one essays ranging from the practices of the mid-eighteenth century to the contemporary work of Frank Gehry, this scholarly volume explores the architectural effects and the philosophical implications of fragmentation in architecture.
Barry Bergdoll is Professor in Architecture at Columbia University, New York. His interests centre on modern architectural history, with particular emphasis on France and Germany between 1750 and 1900. Werner Oechslin has been Professor of Art and Architectural History at the ETH (Technological University), Zurich, since 1985.
