Sinopsis

Superintendent Cecil Megarry's life is in a mess. He has separated from his wife, is drinking too much and his career is looking increasingly at risk. One morn- ing he receives a phone call informing him that two men have been murdered on a lonely road outside Belfast. Megarry discovers that the two men have been killed at different times and with different weapons. One has been assassinated with a single bulletto the back of the head. The other has been cut down in a hail of gunfire. He begins to uncovertheir murky backgrounds - Davy Stewart, the unemployed farm labourer who has a bank account for £32,000, and John McCarthy, the ex-informer down on his luck. What linked them? Who has killed them and why? And who is the mysterious Bobby Rossi whose name keeps cropping up? Eugene McEldowney was born in Belfast and is an assistant editor with the Irish Times. He lives with his wife and two children in the village of Howth on the outskirts of Dublin. This is his first novel.
