Halsbury's Laws of England: Vol.55 - Tapa dura

"Halsbury's Laws" is an encyclopaedia of the laws of England. Its 56 volumes contain material from statutes, statutory instruments and other regulations, cases, codes of practice, conventions and command papers. Where a new Act is not yet in force, both the old and the new law is given, so that the subscriber has the legislation at their fingertips the moment it comes into effect but can continue to refer to the old law in the meantime. Material is dealt with in narrative form under title headings arranged in alphabetical order. Each title is the work of an expert or experts in that particular subject. Judges, recorders, barristers, solicitors, administrators, academic lawyers, and lawyers in central government and local government service have all brought their special experience, knowledge and skill to the work. The 4th edition of "Halsbury's Laws" covers all the developments in statute and case law in recent times, either by means of new titles or by rewriting material under old titles. Among the areas of law which have particularly been changed are taxation, administration, foreign relations, local government, and landlord and tenant, and the work reflects all the important recent developments in these fields, including the accession of the UK to the European Communities. This edition has been designed for quick and easy reference. Cross references, index references and tables of statutes, regulations and cases, are made direct to specific paragraphs, rather than to page numbers, resulting in much greater precision and facilitating the use of the work. To assist the reader with further research, full citations are made to source materials. Since 1988 "Halsbury's Laws of England" has benefitted from a reissue programme. The selective reissue of volumes has resulted in the revision of such titles as Companies, Criminal Law, Evidence and Procedure, Bankruptcy and Insolvency, Administrative Law and Inheritance Taxation. Among those revised during 1993 were Charities, Children and Young Persons, Guarantee and Indemnity, Health and Safety at Work and Town and Country Planning. A comprehensive servicing system keeps the work fully up to date to within a month. The many detailed additions and amendments which are needed to maintain the accuracy of the main volumes are covered annually by Cumulative Supplements and monthly by a new Cumulative Noter-Up, both of which are published in an easy-to-use format. The Current Service - now in two binders - provides extensive monthly updating, the main feature being the Monthly Review which includes case otes from over 70 series of law reports published in the UK, the EC and the Commonwealth, notes on quantum of damages in personal injury cases, and coverage of changes in procedure (including the full text of Practice Directions), new statutes, rules and orders. Annual Abridgement volumes constitute an important companion work that provides a permanent record of developments in the law since 1974. Each volume includes summaries of important cases, Acts, statutory instruments and other legislation of the year in question.
