The sixth edition of this text seeks to assist the psychiatric-mental health nursing student by defining the LPN's role and responsibility within today's mental health team. It provides terminology and guidelines for nursing assessment and appropriate intervention. It also explains the importance of the therapeutic process and preparing the client for self-care. There are behavioural objectives at the beginning of each chapter, and NCLEX-style review questions at the end of each chapter. End of unit exercises include case studies with discussion questions to encourage the development of critical thinking skills. There are two new chapters in this edition, along with expanded material on topics such as eating disorders, substance-related disorders, patient and family teaching, co-dependency, post-traumatic stress disorder, and Alzheimer's Disease.
