Descripción Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Jacket by Peter Dunbar Ilustrador. 1st Edition. First UK edition, first impression. Some edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners slightly bruised, some slight yellowing to back jacket and page block, spine slightly faded. Not price clipped (£3.00), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and almost square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 351pp. Martin Gray, born Mieczyslaw Grajewski (1922-2016), was a Holocaust survivor who emigrated to the West, and published books in French about his purported experiences during World War II in which his family perished in Poland. Unfortunately, Holocaust historian Gitta Sereny has dismissed Gray's autobiographical book as partly fiction in a 1979 article in New Statesman magazine, writing that 'Gray's 'For Those I Loved' was the work of Max Gallo the ghostwriter, who also produced Papillon. Some of Gray's claims of wartime heroism were dismissed in Poland as untrue by the 'Silent Unseen' Captain Waclaw Kopisto, who claimed that Gray had never been part of his unit and did not take part in the raid (described in the book) on the Nazi German prison in Pinsk on 18th January 1943. Sadly, Gray was found dead in his swimming pool three days before his 94th birthday, at his home in Ciney, Belgium, where he had lived since 2012. 'For Those I Loved' was made into a film in 1983 starring Michael York as Gray, directed by Robert Enrico. Quite a scarce book. Nº de ref. del artículo: 011670
