Die Herzogthümer Holstein und Schleswig bilden den süd lichen'1'heil der Halbinsel, welche von dem Rücken Deutsch lands gegen den Norden ausläufi und die beiden Meere welche seine Küste bespülen von einander scheidet. Im Süden von dem Elbstrom in seinem unteren Lauf begrenzt, wo derselbe fast nur als eine Fortsetzung oder ein. Busen des Meeres erscheint, sind sie auf drei Seiten mit 'der See in unmittelbarer Verbindung' die im Osten mit tief ein schneidenden Buchten das Land durchzieht, im Westen aber zu einer reichen Inselbildnug gelithrt hat.
