From such facts~there can be no doubt that rickets does manifest itself during adolescence. There is, therefore, no a priori reason for considering that genu valgum, varum, and other osseous curves of the lower limbs, arise from any other than a rachitic condition. Under these circum stances, it is necessary to inquire into the relations of rickets to the above osseous deformities.

Rickets is a word supposed to be derived from the Saxon rick-a heap or hump.
