The opposition to this mode of disposing of excrementitious matter has been very great, and has had its origin principally in the continued mistake of its opponents to charge the sewers of later years with all the evils and injurious properties of the old and badly constructed sewers of anti-sanitarian times, of which a great many are yet in existence, not only in Atlanta, but in many cities of this continent as well as Europe.
