This work was first published in Paris in 1843, two years after Barére's death, under the editorship of M. Hippolyte Carnot - the son of his colleague on the Committee of Public Safety, the organiser of victory, and the father of the martyred President of the Third Republic - and of M. David, the friend, but no kinsman, of the famous painter. Hitherto it has not been translated into English, although from his well-known hatred of England, we should have thought that Englishmen would have been interested in hearing what his views were.
