Her other books include I Am Annie Mae: The Personal Story of a Black Texas Woman (which was turned into a musical by Winegarten and Naomi Carrier), Citizens at Last: The Woman Suffrage Movement in Texas, and Deep in the Heart: The Lives and Legends of Texas Jews. A former member of the Governor's Commission for Women, Ruthe Winegarten currently serves on the board of the Texas African American Heritage Organization.
