Excerpt from A Popular Treatise on the Extent and Character of Food Adulterations
Sir: I have the honor to submit herewith the report of Mr. A. J. Wedderburn, special agent of the Department, on the extent and charac ter of food adulterations.
The object of the present bulletin is wholly distinct from that pursued in bulletin No. 13. The investigations, of which the present bulletin is the result, were undertaken for the purpose of collating in popular form well-authenticated facts respecting food adulter'ations, in order that the people and Congress might have, at least, a general view of the evil which it is hoped Mr. Wedderburn's work may help to remove.
