A'r a recent meeting of the Trustees of the Grammar School it was voted That a History of the School should be prepared, setting forth its origin, objects and relations. It was also voted That the Secretary be requested to prepare such a History.

In compliance with this request the following pages have been written. The materials have been gathered from various sources, chiefly from the Records of the Trus tees. These, since 1789, have been faithfully kept, and furnish sufficient information of the growth of the school during the seventy years succeeding that date.
