These Addresses were spoken in the Chapel of Eton College, at a meeting of Public School Masters; and they are published in obedience to the wish of some who were present. The Addresses which were already written are here printed without any material change - a course which, in spite of obvious dis~ advantages, has seemed to be the most natural. The last Address, and a part of that which precedes it, have been written since the meeting, and only in their general lines represent what was.
