I have not followed the plan adopted by Messrs. Edwards, iiewit-sen, and fard, of having the pages and plates unnumbered, as I have myself experi enced much difficulty in' referring to their descriptions and figures until the completion of a volume; I have also been unwilling to put myself under the necessity of figuring species of the same genus on one plate.
