Afterward we had our walk by the sea. Always on fine Sundays we walked there, and saw the sun go down behind the distant headlands. Then my father came in and settled down to his reading, or sat in his easy-chair, with shut eyes and folded hands, I speaking never a word to him, for I knew his thoughts were great thoughts, which I could not follow; and the world where his intellect found its home was a world in which I could not dwell.
