Excerpt from Non-Linear Analysis of the Smooth Pursuit Eye Movement System of the Macaque
The SP system therefore can be considered as a feedback system driven by image motion velocity on the retina and whose output is eye acceleration used to modulate ongoing eye velocity.
Despite the 100 msec delay in the system response this model predicts relatively accurate steady - state tracking of approximately constant velocity targets: the SP system will accelerate the eye up to the appropriate velocity (the saccadic system will then correct any remaining position error) and hold it there by modulating eye velocity only when image slippage occurs. It does not however account for the accurate tracking of sinusoidal motion where target velocity is constantly changingably) and the delay should but does not cause significant g between target and eye velocity A predictor trajectory estimator) is therefore postulated to account data. Many models described how the SP system could [8] but as yet no study has attempted to quantify the prediction process going on during steady - state tracking oide.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a nonlinear model that simulates the characteristics of the smooth pursuit (SP) eye movement system. The SP system is responsible for stabilizing images on the retina during head movements. The model is based on experimental data of eye movements in response to target motion and incorporates nonlinearities and dynamics observed in the system. The model accurately predicts the gain and phase of the SP system's response to sinusoidal target motion, except for a constant phase discrepancy that could indicate the role of a predictor in the system. The book discusses the construction of the model, its validation against experimental data, and its potential use in elucidating the mechanisms underlying the SP system's ability to track predictable targets accurately and compensate for its inherent delay.
