Jose Donoso Yanez [1924-1996] was a Chilean writer, among whose best known works are the novels Coronacion , El lugar sin limites and El obsceno pajaro de la noche. In this historical and critical essay on Latin American fiction, Donoso coined the term Boom for the sudden flowering of dazzling literary accomplishment which occurred in the 1960s in several Latin American countries. Donoso's own work was part of this boom.
