Teaching phonics is recognised educationally as an essential part of the teaching of reading and writing. This reading scheme teaches children how to sound out words and blend sounds to read words and to segment the sounds in the words in order to accurately spell them.

Gill Budgell studied English and Education at degree level and then took the RSA Diploma in TESL, having realised she was ill-equipped to cope with the needs of bilingual pupils in her primary classroom. And so a life-long interest in language teaching began. She taught briefly in Germany and then several years in primary mainstream schools before developing an interest in resource provision and becoming a literacy publisher. Louis Fidge is passionate about the importance of quality primary education, and literacy in particular.
