Deborah J. Short is director of academic language research & training and also a senior research associate at the Center for Applied Linguistics in Washington, DC. She has worked as a researcher, teacher, trainer, and curriculum/materials developer in the area of K-12 language minority and immigrant education for 20 years. She recently chaired a national panel on adolescent ELL literacy.
MaryEllen Vogt, professor emerita at California State University, Long Beach, has been an educator for nearly 40 years. A co-author of eight books, includingReading Specialists and Literacy Coaches in the Real World (Allyn & Bacon, 2007), she received her university’s Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award and served as president of the International Reading Association in 2004-2005.
Jana Echevarría was selected as Outstanding Professor at California State University, Long Beach, where she is now professor emerita. Her professional experience includes elementary and secondary teaching in general education, special education, English as a second language, and bilingual programs. She is the co-author of nine books, includingSheltered Content Instruction: Teaching English Language Learners with Diverse Abilities(Allyn & Bacon, 2007).
