Recent economic reforms in Great Britain have made changes both in the structure of benefits paid to the poor of working age and in the state pension scheme. Together they constitute the most substantial single set of reforms to the system since the post-war Beveridge proposals which laid the foundations of the modern welfare state in Britain.
