Translated from French, this book by a leading astronomer/cosmologist, examines the evolution of the universe, its impact on life, and its relation to human consciousness. The author's unique approach likens the study of the universe to music: one starts with the musical notes of observation; then proceeds to the melody of interpretation and theories; and follows up with predictions (new musical partitions). The universe's challenge to human ingenuity and science is to be able to write and play the symphonies and fugues of its music.
