So writes Gregor Benton, translator of this unique record of China's Revolution from the viewpoint of one of its most faithful veterans. In Moscow, where he had been sent for training in 1927 by the Chinese Communist Party, Mr. Wang encountered Trotskyism. And it was as a Trotskyist that he was expelled from the Party. Six years after his imprisonment in 1931, Mr. Wang was released just as the Japanese armies arrived in Nanking; then, throughout the war and until his eventual exile in 1949, he continued to promulgate the Trotskyist heresy. It was in the 1950s that Mr. Wang's memoirs were published, in an edition of only twenty copies, to be read chiefly by those Trotskyists who had survived Mao Tse~tung's rise to power and moved over to Hong Kong. Now available for the first time to a wide English readership, these memoirs ~ remarkably empty of bitterness, replete with dispassionate observation ~ will be read with interest and compassion not only by students of Chinese affairs or of international communism (who will find them an incomparably valuable historical record) but also by all who recognize and admire integrity in strife and dignity in defeat. Wang Fan~hsi was born in 1907. His original memoirs, written and mimeographed in the haven of Macao, were reprinted in Hong Kong in 1978. Mr. Wang produced this revised account at his new home in England. Nº de ref. del artículo: 7101708
