Michael Broad's unique story of love and friendship carries a strong message about being different. When Broken Bird is born, he doesn't know that he's different. Then his brothers point and laugh at him because he only has one wing – how will he ever be able to fly? Undaunted, he sets out on a journey, determined to make the best of things. Sure enough, that leads him to his soulmate and to realize that being different often means being better.

An exciting new talent, Michael Broad previously worked in animation. Broken Bird is his first picture book and the style was inspired by his visit to the Turner exhibition at the Tate. Michael is also currently working on a series of young fiction for Puffin about the character Jake Cake as well as a second picture book, The Little Star Who Wished. Michael lives in London.
