John Buchan was born in Perth. He grew up in the Gorbals in Glasgow and went to Brasenose College, Oxford, where he published five books, won several awards, and gained a First. He was a barrister and a MP, as well as a soldier and publisher. He wascreated Baron Tweedsmuir in 1935 and became the 15th Governor General of Canada until his death in 1940.
