Western Europe has a wide range of heathers and moorland, with Great Britain and Ireland having optimum conditions for the full development of heather. Scotland has a mixture of blanket bogs, wet heathers and moorland scapes shaped by burning and other sorts of management mainly for red grouse, hill sheep and red deer.
