Born in 1948 to a sprawling South London family (his brother Peter was British and European welterweight champion, one of his sisters ran away at 16 to become a Bluebell girl in Paris) Dennis Waterman failed his 11 plus, and went to drama school instead, with people like Francesca Annis and Susan George.Aged 12, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford. The Sweeney and Minder made him famous, but he has also starred in musicals and films, produced and starred in The Captain's Tale and played football at Wembley with Bobby Moore and George Best.
