Heavy Weather Tactics will enable the sailor to:

  • Prepare for heavy weather before it arrives
  • Monitor approaching gales on the radio, the internet, and on deck, and take appropriate action to avoid them
  • Know when to reef, when to heave-to, when to run off before the wind, and when to resort to a sea anchor or drogue
  • Choose the response that's best suited to the boat and crew
  • Execute each tactic effectively and safely
