This is the first history of the world to be written from the perspective of the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. Even before that, this century has seen more rapid changes than any previous age. Though the politics of the super-powers is given its rightful place in this history, considerable attention is paid to African, Asian, South American and Far Eastern history. Eurocentricity has been banished and has been replaced by a multiplicity of perpectives.
