Clean pages with just occasional spotting. Very sound with good hinges. Average age and cover surface wear, but not too bad overall. No marks or writing except name/date in pencil on front endpaper. Two signatures a bit pulled, but not loose at all. Edges of covers have occasional wear. ; From Appleton's Cyclopedia of American Biography: "John Howard Suydam, clergyman, born in Brooklyn, New York, 1 October, 1832. He was graduated at Rutgers in 1854, and at the Theological seminary of the Reformed church in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1857, and was ordained by the classis of Poughkeepsie. He was settled as pastor at Fishkill in 1857-'62, and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1862-'9, and since 1869 has been in Jersey City. He has been president of the board of superintendents of the New Brunswick theological seminary and of the general synod of the Reformed church. He received the degree of D. D. From Rutgers in 1882. In addition to sermons, he has published " The Cruger Family" (Philadelphia, 1864) ; "Cruel Jim " (1870) ; and " The Wreckmaster" (1871). " NOTE: the only author listed in the book we have is Knickerbocker, Jr. Has six illustrations. Appears to be an autobiographical, inspirational novel. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 307 pages.
