The text block is entirely blank throughout, and the cloth is completely unlettered. The dustwrapper is printed, and shows a reproduction of a Highlander in full tartan rig. The title appears both on the spine and on the upper panel of the dustwrapper, but has been applied in manuscript. Loosely laid in is a typed letter signed from Romilly Fedden, the Historic Buildings Secretary of the National Trust, dated 23rd August 1965, to Mrs R. Joekes, who subsequently co-edited the National Trust Handbook. The letter discusses the proposed book, suggesting that it would contain an introduction and nine chapters, and the proposed subjects and author for each chapter are outlined.
