SUBJECTS: Poetry/Ljóð ; Icelandic Canadian literature; Icelandic Literature/Íslenskar bókmenntir. The author, who immigrated from Iceland in 1873 and lived in Winipeg from 1881 until his death in 1916, included his best poems in this book, according to Stefan Einarsson, A History of Icelandic Literature, pp. 345-6. Einarsson states that he "described the Canadian scene and paid tribute to his land of adoption". Watson Kirkonnell includes the author's poems in his Canadian Overtones. On p. 253 is a poem "To Western Icelanders", meaning Icelanders of North America, in which he references Canada; on p. 82 is poem re Icelanders on the west side of the ocean; poem re Canada on p. 42, etc. Some commemorative poems to N.
