FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. 8 vo. Half morocco and marbled boards. 328 pp. Two engraved plates. Uniformly lightly browned, minor spotty foxing; a very good copy. Charles White (1728-1813) was Man Midwife to the Lying in Hospital, Manchester, England. "White was a strong advocate of surgical cleanliness in obstetrics and his book is a pioneer work in aseptic midwifery. He was the first after Hippocrates to make any substantial contribution towards the solution of the aetiology and management of puerperal fever." (G-M 6270, citing first edition, 1773). "This book, translated into French and German, and also printed in America, became a mighty force in the reform of medical practice at a time when it was sorely needed." (Heirs of Hippocrates 981 - first edition). Austin 2039. Cushing W165. N° de ref. de la librería 000390
