Substantial Typed Letter Signed "Max Rostal", 16 July 1956, one page, 4to, good condition, in which he writes to Gladys Pankhurst, his secretary, from Salzkammergut, Austria, requesting additional items for his school - pieces of music (specific details), a recording, 600 Players cigarettes "on the boat" i.e. duty free for three people. He talks of accommodation arranged, accepts an engagement for the following year (but wants 70, his usual, not 50 gns, asks her to accept a lecturing engagement ("Bach's music for the violin"), more about money left for the Summer Course, asks her to arrange 36-40 lessons for Klopcic (presumably later Prof. Rok Klopcic) (discusses his individual case, exams etc), discusses another pupil, talks of rehearsals for Proms, other matters. B. Autograph Postcard Signed, to Gladys Pankhurst, headed (Rostal and Swiss address), 6 August 1970, both sides written on, thanking her for birthday wishes and her treatment of his daughter, Angela, whom he discusses.C. Five letters and letter/cards from Karoline Rostal to Gladys Pankhurst, 1971-1973, friendly gossipy, some mention of Max. With one long letter from Max and Karoline's daughter, Angela, to Gladys [Pankhurst] and Bryn [Granger], 1986, travel plans, family news, her new boyfriend (married with children). And three cards, two signed by Max Rostal (and Karoline), the other printed greetings.D.
