Sinopsis:

Author Han Dong Qian is a renowned archaeologist and writer in China. He spent four years researching over 50 ancient kiln sites in over 22 provinces, including Ningxia, Tibet, Henan, Zhejiang, Xinjiang, Yunnan, Inner Mongolia etc. His book, ¡°The Quest for Ancient Kiln Site in China¡± is China¡¯s first essay ¨Cstyled research paper on the ancient kiln sites. The book not only describes the kiln sites, but also speaks a great deal of their historic value, culture and connotation.
By focusing mostly on history, theory, originality and readability, Mr. Qian divided china development in China into five different periods: Obscuration, Germination, Organization, Summit, and Outstanding. Other experts agree with his theories, and believe that his studies have greatly contributed to the study and research of porcelain and pottery in China. With over 210 thousand words in Chinese and large format (21cm x 29cm), ¡°The Quest for Ancient Kiln Site in China¡± displays over 500 photographs. Along with pictures of the ancient kiln sight are pictures of broken porcelain and typical displays. The mixture of illustrations and text displays the development of Chinese history.
Shanghai Daily newspaper (Jan. 18,2006) did feature article on this book: Perhaps one of China's best-known exports, ceramics have fascinated historian and journalist Qian Handong since he was a boy.
To restore the country's glorious history of ceramics, journalist Qian Handong started his odyssey to explore kilns in China four years ago. He has published a book, ¡°Xunfang Zhonghua Mingyao¡± (¡°The Quest for Ancient Kiln Site in China¡±), telling the story of nearly 50 pottery workshops throughout the country.

About the Author:

As a Chinese culture lover, Han Dong Qian has written two books on the ancient ceramic arts and is more often regarded as ¡°an antique collector¡± and ¡°an amateur archeologist.¡±
¡°Chinaware was the first thing Westerners learned of our country. To me, the history of chinaware is the epitome of the history of Chinese culture,¡± says Qian, explaining why he fell in love with ancient pottery.
However, it was his father who brought him to the world of chinaware. ¡°When I was a young boy, my father took me to visit Shanghai Museum. I was immediately enchanted and intoxicated by how exquisite and vivid the ancient Chinese ceramics are,¡± he says.
From then on, Qian dreamed of being a collector calligraphy works, paintings and ancient coins and notes. In the prelude of book, Anna Bernard, or Chen Hsiang Mei, the famous American-chinese political activist and chairman of US International Cooperation Committee, said: ¡°In his way of writing prose and with the angle of a scholar, he bluntly expresses his own feelings which makes his articles different from the regular pottery introduction articles. He mixes the scientific knowledge and historical culture together, vividly and smoothly.¡± As the book was more based on research, Qian decided to put theory into practice ¨C he visited the ancient kilns one by one. So the latest book ¡°The Quest for Ancient Kiln Site in China¡± was born as a result of his exciting four-year journey.
Qian has gained prestige in cultural circles: a veteran journalist, a writer and editor-in-chief of a Chinese study journal for a middle school.
