Julian Steyermark of the world-famous Missouri Botanical Gardens, spent his life collecting and classifying the many botanical species that he found during innumerable expeditions through Central, North and South America. This passion began during the Second World War when he was seeking quinine plants for the war effort, later he devoted his attention to the classification of bromelias in particular. So self-denying and important was his dedication to this field that a forest was named in his memory in the state of Missouri. As a member of the Botanical Gardens of Venezuela, he participated in numerous expeditions and gave us the opportunity, along with Francisco Esteva to publish this book with a synthesis of bromelias found in Venezuela, many of which he discovered. At the time of his death, Steyermark had a record of 35,000 classified botanical plant species which he alone had discovered. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Book. Nº de ref. del artículo: 021652
