[This book] is interesting, informative in many ways. It is not a mere travelogue. It is more than that. The author tries exploring historical, spiritual places on the way and connects it with the similar places in other countries.... He did lot of research on historical cities of India, Pakistan and Iran. The cities were selected on the basis of their significance, relevance in the history. The book is full of cultural, historical, religious references...the book is enjoyable to read.
(Free Press Journal, 25 August 2016)Right to Passage is a thinking person’s travelogue: one that will stimulate and enrich anyone interested in the cultural, religious and linguistic traditions of the lands that Zeeshan Khan traversed... a remarkable piece of travel writing and an excellent debut.
(The Book Review, October 2016)In 2011, Zeeshan Khan decided to travel from his city Dhaka via India and Pakistan to Iran and on to Europe. This book traces his journey till he left the borders of Iran, a distance he completed in about 60 days. For Khan the journey was about travelling along a historical route steeped in cultures, languages, religions and races, all woven together as a single, indivisible whole.
While India represented somewhat familiar terrain, travelling through contemporary Pakistan and Iran was a particular eye-opener for the author. Much of the current realities of the region are reflected in the book, along with Khan’s own commentary about what he observed and encountered. Equally a pleasure to read for the armchair traveller or the seasoned one, the book is a stunning snapshot of life along a well-worn route known for its spiritual depth and philosophical richness.
