《刘响油画记》选择刊出了刘响老师的油画作品111幅，时间跨度长达33年。其中部分画作是与刘响老师与其老师一同写生的作品，以及在实际教学中与其学生一同写生的作品，体现了刘响老师尊师爱生的情怀，在教与学的生涯中，完成了一个个凝聚着师生情感的互动循环。 刘响老师经历丰富，早年曾做过太仓图书馆文化馆的临时工、娄东工艺美术厂美工、花边经理部设计；1984考入南京师范大学美术系学习；1988年任教于新苏师范学校；1990年起任教于常熟高等专科学校、常熟理工学院至今；1995年完成南京师范大学徐明华画室油画研究生课程学习；2009年完成英国温切斯特艺术学院访学；长年在我校艺术与服装工程学院从事基础绘画教学。
