About the book >.>.> I first came across the textile designs of Alec Walker, when I was asked, in 1985, to research and curate an exhibition for Newlyn Orion which would examine certain craft-based industries which had developed in the artistic environment of the Newlyn Art Colony during the last decade of the nineteenth century. Initially, I was to investigate metalwork, jewellery, printmaking and ceramics, but my interest was aroused by a short piece on Alec Walker in Caroline Fox's catalogue for the exhibition Painting in Newlyn 1900-30, and on seeing some examples of the textiles, which I thought stunningly original, I was delighted when the opportunity unexpectedly arose to include a section on Crys?de in the exhibition in June 1986. On that occasion, with the limited time available, it was not possible to attempt a detailed study of the designs but when, in 1991, the Royal Cornwall Museum acquired Polly Walker's substantial collection of textiles, printing-blocks, documents etc. with th.
