Reseña del editor:
This book focuses on climate change and forest ecosystems (impacts, mitigation, vulnerability and adaptation), and includes work from various international institutions that consider forests as part of the solution to address climate change. The book aims to increase the understanding of forest ecosystems dynamics in response to a changing climate; to address deforestation; and maximise carbon sequestration in forests and forest products. Community and political issues involved at various project and ecosystem scales are discussed in detail. By advancing and exchanging knowledge that is complimentary to the UNFCCC-IPCC framework, our team of editors and authors hope to add a valuable contribution to address global climate change in relation to forestry and forest ecosystems in vulnerable locations. It includes work from various institutions and international contributors. Book chapters include a wide variety of topics on climate change impacts, mitigation, vulnerability and adaptation of forests. Our team of editors, reviewers, and authors are honoured to be part of this project; truly an example of international co-operation and articulation within the climate change community.
Biografía del autor:
Mark researches within the School of Engineering and Information Technology at Murdoch University, Western Australia, and has an extensive publication history in peer reviewed journal articles, edited books, and international conferences. Marks collaborative research activities include projects in Australia, USA (Fulbright Scholar), Philippines (Endeavour Award Fellow), South Africa, and numerous other countries and locations in Africa and the Indo-Pacific region. His diverse research interests and publication history includes clean energy technology, agricultural system productivity, international and rural development, technology performance, energy policy, carbon markets, new water technology, and research collaborations. Since 2005, I have been working on different research projects and teaching activities at Castilla La Mancha University. I developed my doctoral thesis in Cuenca Mountains working on Spanish black pine (Pinus nigra Arn. ssp salzmannii) natural regeneration and sustainable forest management. I have also spent some years in different European and national universities and research centers as for example Edinburgh University, Instituto Superior de Agronomia de Lisboa, Tras-Os-Montes e Alto Douro University and Centro de Biologia Aplicada del Segura. Now, I am currently involved on many different research and teaching activities at the Higher Technical School of Agricultural and Forestry Engineering. (Castilla La Mancha University), the Research Institute for Renewable Energy of Albacete (www. http://ier.uclm.es) and the National Open University (U.N.E.D.). My research and teaching interest are related to: 1. - Forest ecosystem management under the sustainability and multifunctionality forestry principles on the new context of climate change. Natural regeneration of forest species. Dendrocronology; 2.- Assessing hydrological behaviour and sediment connectivity in contrasting Mediterranean catchments. Impacts of Global Change.
