Author, Steve Ferris, grew up in Granite city, Steelmill town in Illinois - the son of Rick and Lila and has two siblings. Sports with friends was the daily routine growing up, and listening to his grandfather tell him of his days as a prizefighter were a big deal to him. Steve currently resides in nearby Edwardsville with his three children. He was inspired by an old family friend whose son had down syndrome and always felt he wish he could have helped him do something like the special Olympics, although Steve was much younger than the young man at that time. His family moved away and they lost touch. That coupled with his passion for boxing and never getting into the ring as a fighter. As a promise to his mother, Steve came up with this intriguing story.
