A fantasy novel. The kingdoms of the east have all but forgotten the old magic. Science has replaced the wizards; muskets and cannons have replaced the swords and armor of the old knights. But across the mountains, Atark, a shaman of their ancient enemy, the nomadic Kaifeng, has rediscovered the old magic and, thirsting for revenge for his murdered family, he unleashes it in a new war of conquest. As city after city falls to the invader, Matt, a young soldier, and Jarren, a reluctant scholar, desperately search for an answer to this seemingly unstoppable weapon. Meanwhile, Kareen and Thelena, two young women from different cultures, are thrown together by fate?and find that in a world drenched in blood, the only thing they can count on is each other.
Biografía del autor:
Scott Washburn has had a life-long interest in science fiction, fantasy, military history and wargaming. So, it's probably no surprise that his writing includes elements of those interests. You will find battles in nearly all of his stories and those battles will be realistic and adhere to sound military principles. But Scott is also a Civil War reenactor and that interest brought him face-to-face with the fact that battles are fought by people, not robots. Those people have hopes and dreams and emotions of their own. This comes out clearly in what Scott writes and the readers will find themselves fully involved with the characters and situations. Scott's full-time job is as an architectural designer, he loves to build things. This also comes through clearly in his writings. The worlds and galaxies he sets his stories in are all constructed with solid architecture and engineering. They won't fall down when put under stress. On a personal level, Scott lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and works at Temple University. He is married with two daughters, a dog and a cat.
