Reseña del editor:
The world is made up of all sorts of colors, all intertwined to form a magnificent creation. The greens of the grass and trees, the blues of the sky and ocean: these are the physical beauties that man just takes for granted. But what about the other colors of the world, the ones that can only be seen with the heart, such as love, fear, ignorance, hatred, faith, trust, joy and friendship? This book is about such a person. Challenged by the loss of sight at birth, a young woman recounts some of her life struggles in order to inspire others. Greatly encouraged by her parents not to give up in anything that she tried to do, this woman learned at an early age to be persistent, even when the situation looked slim. This book shines with some of her funny experiences, as well as some of her frustrating and horrifying ones. Even so, all that this young woman faces, all that she is able to accomplish, she dedicates her thanks and appreciation to first Almighty God, and then to her wonderful parents. For her parents, she says, are her heroes, and she wants the world to know this. Hence the title of this book.
Biografía del autor:
Tonya Evette Robinson Jones was born in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia on July 18, 1976. She is the second of 11 children. Her parents, Pamela Nance and Thomas Robinson married, never expecting that they would have such a large family. Because Tonya was born several months premature, doctors rushed to save her life. Too much oxygen was used, thus depleting Tonya of her sight. For a short time, until about the age of twelve years old, Tonya had limited partial sight in her left eye, just enough vision to see light perception and blurry images. She could see huge dark print, but this only came sometimes and was stressed. With the little sight and time that she had left before her vision was completely gone, Tonya's parents did their utmost to describe the world to her. They hoped to help her create a filing cabinet of memories, of colors that she could learn to compare things to in her mind. And for those intangible things, her parents hoped to instill such values as love, friendship, trust, and faith; you do not need the physical eye to see these treasures. Tonya Jones loves to read and write all sorts of genre, including classic drama and screen plays. Her computer is always on, a tape recorder is always ready, or her Braille notetaker is with her where ever she goes. She loves telling stories, but she also enjoys hearing stories from others as well. Tonya currently lives in Atmore, Alabama with her husband, Matthew Jones. In their house also reside two Cockatoos which Tonya calls her children, Buddy and Grace.
