Containing international data on over 8000 warships, auxiliaries and armed vessels, this updated edition gives information on the operational strengths of each navy, new construction ships, modernization programmes, new weapon systems and new capabilities. All warships and naval auxiliaries are covered and information is presented to allow comparison. Data appears on each ship in standardized fields - for instance, main machinery, speed, missiles, modernization and sales. Drawings illustrate the position of major weapon systems, and there are over 3000 additional photographs. This 1994 edition incorporates Captain Richard Sharpe's survey on naval departments in the last year, highlighting the shrinkage of Western navies, the naval build-up in the Middle and Far East, and the status of navies in the CIS and Eastern Europe.
